RE: Buhari, Osinbajo to spend N3.4bn on feeding, travels. #EndSARS

 “Wonders shall never end, imagine these two men, how can they spend N3.4 billion on feeding and travelling when millions of Nigerians are hungry, these people are really wicked.” This was a text I received from a citizen.



My response only angered the person. Why? Because my response was four laughing my ass off emoticons (🤣🤣🤣🤣), but the person didn’t find it funny, so I had to explain the reason for my response.


I didn’t mean to aggravate your anger, I just found it funny that you too have fallen for this headline. Let me explain what the newspapers will never tell you. The N3.4 billion budgeted for the Office of the President and Vice President for feeding and travel is not for the two men and their family, it is for work.


When you see the President or Vice President receive foreign leaders, ambassadors, local associations or groups, these people are often treated to lunch or dinner depending on the time of the visit. The people in the Aso Rock don’t run to the fast food joint to buy food that will be served, it is budgeted for and the same thing applies to travel.


Many people do not understand the budget and that is why these journalists play on our emotions. They want us to get angry over something that they should have explained in layman terms for us all to understand.


As for the travels, there is a budget too. The president has 2.4billion budgeted; 775.6m for local travels, 1.7bn for international travels. The total amount budgeted for the VP for travels is 801m; 517.1m for international travels and 284m locally. I hear some Nigerians saying why is the President or Vice President travelling to this place and not this place, it is because they have a budget. I’m sure that left to both of them, they will love to travel every day but they cannot because they are constrained by this budget. Compared to previous years these budgets are a reduction. 


If you look at today’s economy you will know that the money budgeted for food and travels is very decent. For feeding budget for the president we have; 98.3m for food stuffs and catering supplies, 25.7m for refreshments and meals. The Vice President’s feeding; 50.9m food stuff and catering materials, 18.3m for refreshments and meals, cooking gas and fuel 2.4m. You do business too and you travel, so you will understand what I am saying about travels.
