Merry Christmas: The Saviour of APC

Image
The world over, Christians are eagerly awaiting the nativity of the savior promised since the times of the Isaiah. Although it is agreed that the 25th of December is a mere celebration of the remembrance of the birthday of the Messiah, the event is so universal that it is celebrated by other faiths as part of the holiday season that includes the New Years, which is a week after. When the Vanguard newspaper published an article asking if Prof. Osinbajo can help the APC, I realized that Christmas came early for the ruling party; had Vice President Yemi Osinbajo not spoken up at the party’s NEC, it would not be a case of whether he could help, rather if he could salvage the party. The expectations are that the unfairly disbanded members would have sought redress in court. There is constant wrangling in parties, the PDP has had its fair share, but the conflagration that Prof. Osinbajo averted all the ingredients to have combusted the party internally is one that has left members of the par...

We need more "Sexual Assault" advocates like Osinbajo

Image
By Nkechi Okoye-Adewale I have not had the opportunity to pour my heart out on the deafening silence on sexual assaults and gender based violence in recent times. In the last few days, we have had some events that have highlighted sexual violence in homes even among educated people. For many, the case of Pius Anglo, the Channels TV reporter who beat his wife weeks after she had a baby is still fresh. But there many more cases like this, not everyone is willing to come out and speak on their domestic situation but sexual assaults are real. During the week, I saw Vice President Yemi Osinbajo speaking at the virtual 6th Network Conference of Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCS), and I was really excited that someone so high up was paying attention. benefits for people who suffer from nausea and vomiting in pregnancy.

Image
Looks like scientists have discovered some benefits for people who suffer from nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. And you know what they say, "no pain, no gain." Vomiting in pregnancy: Scientists find mums who suffered from pregnancy sickness tend to have children with higher IQs A study has revealed that if you suffer from pregnancy sickness, you may likely have a child whose IQ is higher than his or her mates. The full meaning of IQ is Intelligent Quotient, a way of measuring intelligence in humans. This simply means that your child would be sharper and more intelligent than other kids the same age. Usually, many mums worry that their sickness is messing up how much nutrients the baby gets to receive. They worry that it is affecting the baby's overall development. Amazingly, Researchers at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, have found that instead of affecting the baby in a bad way, your sickness and vomiting increases the child's intelligence.

Is FG's ₦30,000 enough for taxi drivers, Keke Napep and Okada riders? #EndSarsNow

Image
On Sunday, I read a statement that the Federal Government would soon commence the enrolment and payment of N30,000 to Nigerians operating in the transport business – including rideshare drivers Uber, Bolt, etc, taxi drivers, bus drivers, Keke Napep riders, Okada riders, cart pushers etc. The first thing that came to mind was, is N30,000 really enough?  What can N30,000 do for these people, then I remembered that my brake pad and fan belt are two problems I need to attend to very urgently. In fact, my mechanic told me that if my fan belt cuts, I will be stuck at that very point but even worse is that the day my brake will fail, he prays I don’t kill anybody but as a rugged Lagos boy, no be today, we dey drive without brake. So why am I writing this? It is because all the money I need to fix my car is less than N15k and I don’t have it. It was then that I knew that N30,000 is a lot of money even for me. If I get that N30,000, I will not only fix my car, I will balance at my regular j...

Marketing, Installation and Repairs to constitute 250,000 Solar Jobs

These were the words of Mr. Suleiman Babamanu, Technical Project Lead of the Federal Government’s Solar Power Naija project which is themed- Enabling 5 million Solar Connections. While appearing on the weekly program of Radio Nigeria; Have Your Say, he stated that the main aim of the government was to find the best solution to bridge the electricity shortage gaps especially in various rural communities and the government has sought to do this via three immediate quick steps.  “The first is by building mini-grids within various communities and the second is Individual Home Systems that basically are plug and play systems. The final one is a power generation system where the company generates power but employs already existing frameworks of the resident DisCo to distribute this power to the community it is serving.” Babamanu added that “We are employing a private sector led approach and by this we are creating a conducive environment by making policies as well as availing access to l...

#SolarPowerNaija: Finally, 25 million Nigerian households will get electricity

How do I explain my excitement? That 25 million households in Nigeria will be getting electricity is so unbelievable. There are a lot of us that have called on the Nigerian government to do this for so long, finally, it is happening. Like God said; “let there be light and there was light”, and it was morning and it was evening and it was the first day and ever since then, mankind has been fixated on the concept of perpetuating the daylight hours and the solution came in the form of power. Power is defined as a source or means of supplying energy, especially electricity or the rate at which energy is emitted or transferred. Permit me now to jump from Genesis 1:2 and cull in from 1:14, for it is from the great light created to govern the day and the Buhari administration is seeking to further chase the darkness and empower the people. For those not up to speed, the Nigerian Government is seeking to improve the power situation across the country by commencing the process of installation o...
