CONSENSUAL SEX RESEARCH

Violence during consensual sex has become normalised, campaigners have warned. It comes after more than a third of UK women under the age of 40 have experienced unwanted slapping, choking, gagging or spitting during consensual sex, research for  BBC Radio 5 Live  suggests. Of the women who had experienced any of these acts, wanted or otherwise, 20% said they had been left upset or frightened. Anna, 23, says she has experienced unwanted acts of violence during consensual sex on three separate occasions, with different men. For her, it started with hair pulling and slapping. Then the man tried to put his hands around her neck. “I was shocked,” she said, “I felt extremely uncomfortable and intimidated. If someone slapped or choked you on the street, it would be assault”. It wasn’t until Anna spoke to her friends about it that she realised how common it was. “From then on, pretty much all the guys would try at least one, if not multiple combinations, of these acts.”...

PLEASE KEEP NAGGING

A story on typical middle-class household. The son didn’t like living in his father’s house. This was because of his father’s constant ‘nagging’; “You are leaving the room without switching off the fan” “The TV is on in the room where there is no one. Switch it off!” “Keep the pen in the stand; it is fallen down” The son didn’t like his father nagging him for these minor things. He had to tolerate these things till yesterday since he was with them in the same house. But today, however, he had an invitation for a job interview. “As soon as I get the job, I should leave this town. There won’t be any nagging from my father” were his thoughts. As he was about to leave for the interview, the father advised: “Answer the questions put to you without any hesitation. Even if you don’t know the answer, mention that confidently.”  He gave him more money than he actually needed to attend the interview. The son arrived at the interview centre. He noticed that there were no secu...

Whether it’s  breaking a habit  or just doing things differently, here’s how you can be more productive at home. GET UP BEFORE YOUR KIDS DO:  Waking up on your own terms, rather than be woken up by the kids’ instant demands, can drastically improve your day. Set an alarm clock to wake you up with ample time to tend to your personal needs before the kids wake up. You may even be able to enjoy a cup of coffee in peace before chaos sets in. COUNSELLOR TASKS PARENTS ON PROPER UPBRINGING OF CHILDREN

Mrs Naomi Akpan, a social Counsellor, on Monday advised parents on proper upbringing of their children to ensure a better and responsible nation. Akpan, who is also a school teacher, gave the advice in an interview with the  Nigeria News  Agency in Kuje Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT). She said that proper upbringing was important, as it predicts how children perform in the domains of social competence, psycho-social development, academic performance and problem behaviour. According to her, there is need to equip parents with the knowledge and skills needed to take on the responsibility of parenting the 21st century children. “When trained, children mix up with the untrained ones; the peer group influence affects them negatively, and the home is where it starts from, and it is not good. Also:  Prioritise your children’s education, LG Chairman urges parents “Even at the primary school level, the spirit of cultism, lesbianism and homosexuality h...

MANAGING A STUBBORN, DEFENSIVE, OR DEFIANT EMPLOYEE: PART 2

On the other hand,  know where to draw the line . At another client, a senior leader who was an external hire felt that his track record spoke for itself, and that he didn’t need to adjust to his new company’s cultural norms. When he behaved in ways that were counter to norms around work/life balance and demonstrating respect for individual differences, he was chastised and counseled multiple times by a colleague from HR, but he assumed that his financial performance would protect him. In fact, he made it quite clear to colleagues that he didn’t have to “listen” to the feedback he was receiving. Despite the success of his work product, when too many employees complained that they felt denigrated and that he was damaging the organizational culture, the executive leadership got involved and he was let go. Sometimes, the behavior of an oppositional employee is so damaging to their team or colleagues that the company cannot sustain it and must  encourage them to move on. But in...

MANAGING A STUBBORN, DEFENSIVE, OR DEFIANT EMPLOYEE: PART 1

Some of the hardest employees to manage are people who are consistently oppositional. They might actively debate or ignore feedback, refuse to follow instructions they disagree with, or create a constant stream of negative comments about new initiatives. Most often, these behaviors are meant to make the employee look strong and mask a fear of change, an aversion to anticipated conflict, or the worry that they will look stupid or incompetent. I’ve found in my 30 years of consulting for both public and privately held companies, that there are three distinct approaches that can help you get the best from oppositional employees. The first option is to adjust job responsibilities to leverage their strengths. One functional leader at a company I advised was known and appreciated for his technical expertise, but he was also an extreme micromanager and treated employees with disdain, leading to high turnover in his department. Whenever his manager or HR gave him feedback, he dismissed th...

INVESTING IN AGRI-BUSINESS

Crowd funding: A new way of investing in agribusiness For those who have a little capital or busy professionals who do not have the luxury of time to put their money in the stock market, an alternative is to invest in agribusiness via crowd funding. Crowd funding is raising capital for a project or a startup from a large number of people or a crowd, Agribusiness via crowd funding is pooling of investment money to fund local farmers for a share of the profit after the produce has been sold.

WIKE LAUDS SOCIAL INVESTMENT PROGRAMMES

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has praised Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for the successes recorded by the Buhari government Social Investment Programmes (SIPs) in empowering the poor and improving the welfare of beneficiaries. Governor Wike who was represented by Rivers State deputy governor, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo commended the Vice President for the great work he is doing for the nation. The encomiums by the Rivers governor comes weeks after the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar, commended Prof. Osinbajo for being the most trustworthy Vice President who has Nigeria’s best interest at heart. He also lauded the Vice President for his loyalty and commitment to the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Speaking during the Great Minds Summit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where the VP was Special Guest of Honour and delivered the keynote address, Harry-Banigo said Osinbajo has been doing a great work for the Nation, noting that the VP connected with all Nig...

COURT THROWS OUT BUSOLA DAKOLO’S CASE, EXONERATES PASTOR BIODUN FATOYINBO

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Court 12 sitting at Bwari dismissed the case filed by Busola Dakolo and exonerated Fatoyinbo. This came after Fatoyinbo filed an Objection and an affidavit at the Court reiterating that Busola’s statements were false and concocted to embarrass, scandalise and ridicule Fatoyinbo. He averred that from the inception she sought the attention of the media an d press, and brought the civil action even while the Police investigation was ongoing. Her false claim were stale and an abuse of judicial process. The court held that the matter amounts to injustice, and an abuse of judicial process and held that the case is purely sentimental, empty. The court awarded costs of N1,000,000 against Busola Dakolo and held that it would have been 10 times more but resisted it because there are women with legitimate claims who may approach the court. The Court held that the case carries more of cruelty in them than justice.

FINAL DAYS OF A DROWNING MAN

Femi Fani-Kayode has been without a job since 2015 when he jinxed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) out of government. Things have been hard and his only source of income is to peddle fake news. He once claimed DSS had invaded the home of former CJN, Walter Onnoghen. He even once said Osinbajo would be forced out many months ago. But I will like to set the record straight with the latest FAKE NEWS by Femi. When you see a deranged fellow like FFK being vocal in public you need to first ask if he has taken his daily meds. For someone who failed as a minister in a government that did not even require him to perform at any extraordinary level, you wonder what standing he has to make the kind of brainless statements he throws out on social media. Having been used and dumped by the PDP, he is left to face the music alone at the EFCC trial. All this posturing and social media bravado he tries to put up are a pointer to one thing, he is trying to curry favours as the professional poli...

MAKE MONEY IN RABBIT FARMING

Rabbits can be reared for any of the following reasons- to be domesticated as pets; to be reared for consumption of the meat at home or to be farmed for income. Any of the above three reasons is very beneficial, especially, the second and the third purposes because rabbit meat is reputed to be one of the most nutritious and healthy meat for man’s consumption. It is considered an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, and said to be high in vitamins B3, B12, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, and very rich in omega 3. For this reason, therefore, its meat becomes highly demanded for among informed members of the public. Most rabbit farmers have also testified that meeting consumers’ demands is presently a challenge. Rabbit farming is more convenient and profitable than farming in most of other animals, because to start off entails just little capital with a small space, and it is an animal that is very prolific. Starting with just 2 does and 1 buck, within one year could give...

OBLA FIGHTING HIS OWN SHADOW

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has nothing to do with the travails of the sacked Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP), Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla, and it is unfortunate that the former Chairman has chosen to drag his name into the affliction he has brought on himself by his own hands the *Initiative To Save Democracy (ISD)* has said. “Okoi Obono-Obla has serious allegations facing him, from bribery to extortion, to the forgery of certificates; these are not matters that he expects Nigerians to wish away. Is it not shameful that upon the raising of these serious allegations, Mr Obla has blamed everyone else for his travails but himself? And then goes ambitiously for the Vice President, accusing him of being the architect of his fortune. This is puerile.” The Initiative to Save Democracy in a Statement issued by its Press Secretary Peter Oladele stated that it was dishonourable for a public servant to make senseless allegations ...
